Housman said muskie action has been hot and heavy on Webster and Tippecanoe lakes. The fish have been trying to spawn for the past week or so, but the cold fronts kept pushing them back. The next full moon doesn’t occur for two weeks, so the good bluegill fishing should last for several days. The full moon has a positive effect on spawning as well. That will draw even more bluegills to the shallows. Water temperatures were in the low 60s on most waters going into the weekend but should heat up considerably during the current warming trend. That’s not to say you won’t find some bluegills on beds or that you won’t find them hanging around traditional spawning areas.īut you probably won’t see much activity until later this week.
That’s because the holiday came a week earlier this year and the goofy weather has the spawning season in a state of flux. Most anglers know that bluegills tend to spawn around the Memorial Day weekend.
